Summer is winding down and
autumn is just around the corner, are you ready? Prepare your closets for a few
new "must-have" additions of inspired designs as you browse through the
fabulous Fall 2010 Collections as seen on the runways in Bryant Park.
The ARISE
Magazine African Collective - Part III - Fall 2010 show featured
exciting designs from three fashion houses, Black Coffee, Deola Sagoe, and Loin Cloth & Ashes.
South African Designers Jacques Van
Der Watt and Danica Lepen of Black Coffee took
inspiration for their Fall 2010 Collection from "Pablo Picasso's
reinterpretation of African masks for their Cubist collection." Their
collection featured pleated and quilted coats and dresses in a color palate
that focused on softer shades of rose, slate, putty, and flesh tones. The
collection's coats and jackets were gorgeous with luscious details featuring
overly large collars, fluid layers, and creative angles that maximized their
fashion statement for confident, stylish women who enjoy an appreciative nod
when it comes to dressing fashionably.

inspiration for her Fall 2010 Collection from "East African Maasai warriors and
18th century European military uniforms." Her Fall 2010 collection
featured slim-fit pants, fishtail skirts, and long evening gowns in a warm
color palette of rich hues of rusts, oranges, browns, along with blues.

Tanzanian Designer Anisa Mpungwe of Loin Cloth & Ashes,
found inspiration for Fall 2010 "from her father's hometown of Ifakara, Tanzania,
an old, forgotten town village." Anisa's vision for her company is to create
"dresses for that woman who dares to be different." She utilized a neutral
color palette for her Fall 2010 collection, deftly using black, charcoal,
stone, champagne, sand, bronze, gold, and charcoal for her collection of skinny
pants, jodhpurs, slinky skirts, and mini dresses, where interesting details
included South African made fabric and garment linings made and printed in Tanzania
with Tanzanian inspired art.
